We have recently sold a number of country houses in Yorkshire, including Wigglesworth House, near Settle; Grantley Hall, near Ripon and Gateforth Hall in North Yorkshire. These three, very different properties show the variety of country houses for sale in Yorkshire.
Wigglesworth House was a wonderful family home and as a single property would have been under the £1 million mark. However, with two self-contained properties in the grounds, used as holiday lets, providing a substantial rental income Wigglesworth House was able to command a premium, being both a comfortable family home and a practical country house.
Gateforth Hall, meanwhile, was a classic example of a grand Yorkshire country house, offering Georgian splendour and set in lawned grounds. With 7 bedrooms in the main house and a separate self-contained apartment it certainly provided plenty of space and at under £1.5 million it represented excellent value for money.
The 17th century Grantley Hall near Ripon, with its 15 bedrooms, 9 reception rooms and over 30 acres of grounds was more of a Yorkshire stately home rather than a country house – commensurate with its Grade II* listing. Priced at over £5 million pounds, Grantley Hall still represented good value for money for the right buyer, compared with other areas of the country, given the quality and range of accommodation.
Properties offering this level of quality, historic interest and character, set in private grounds and with stunning countryside right on the doorstep are always in demand.
Add to that the good value and accessibility to the rest of the country via road and rail, with London only being 1hr 50 minutes away by train from York, and we have the perfect mix for attracting buyers to look for country houses for sale in Yorkshire.

A recent property that has come to the market is Long Marston Hall. The hall dates in part from the late sixteenth century. The house is reputed to have been the headquarters for Oliver Cromwell at the battle of Marston Moor and is without question a landmark North Yorkshire home. This is a beautiful property close to the historic city of York.
